About HerTripGuide

HerTripGuide was founded by women travelers who know firsthand what it means to navigate a foreign city alone -- the exhilaration, the freedom, and yes, the very real safety concerns that come with it. We built this site because we believe every woman deserves access to honest, data-driven travel information that puts safety first without sacrificing adventure.

Our Mission

We empower solo female travelers with safety-first city guides, real data, and honest reviews. No sugarcoating, no generic advice recycled from press releases. Every destination we cover is evaluated through the lens of a woman traveling alone: How safe is public transportation at night? Which neighborhoods should you avoid? Where can you meet other solo travelers? What do local women actually experience?

We combine firsthand travel experience with hard data -- crime statistics, traveler reports, infrastructure quality, and community feedback -- to give you safety ratings and recommendations you can actually trust.

What Makes Us Different

Most travel sites treat safety as an afterthought -- a brief paragraph at the bottom of a guide. At HerTripGuide, safety is the foundation of everything we publish. Our city guides are structured around the questions solo women travelers actually ask:

  • Can I walk alone at night?
  • Are there female-only accommodation options?
  • How do locals treat solo women?
  • What cultural norms should I be aware of?
  • What is reliable, safe transportation?

How We Research

Every city guide on HerTripGuide is built from multiple sources: personal visits by our team, interviews with local women, analysis of safety data, and feedback from our community of solo female travelers. We update our guides regularly as conditions change, because a guide that is outdated is a guide that cannot be trusted.

Our Editorial Standards

Every guide published on HerTripGuide follows a strict editorial process. We combine firsthand visits with structured data analysis -- government crime statistics, transportation safety records, traveler incident reports, and community feedback from solo women travelers. We never publish a city guide based on press releases or tourism board marketing materials alone.

Our safety ratings are built on a weighted scoring model that evaluates: street safety for women after dark, public transportation reliability and safety, prevalence of scams targeting solo travelers, availability of female-friendly accommodation, local attitudes toward solo women, healthcare access for foreigners, and ease of emergency communication. Each factor is documented and the methodology is consistent across all destinations so you can compare cities fairly.

How We Stay Current

Travel conditions change. A safe neighborhood can shift. A new metro line can transform accessibility. We review and update every city guide at minimum twice per year, and immediately when we receive verified reports of significant safety changes. Guides that we cannot verify as current are flagged or removed until updated. We would rather have fewer guides than outdated ones.

Transparency

Some links on HerTripGuide are affiliate links. When you book accommodation, flights, or travel gear through our links, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This revenue keeps the site free and independent. Our recommendations are never influenced by affiliate partnerships -- if a place is not safe or not worth your money, it does not make our list regardless of commission potential. See our full affiliate disclosure for details.
